Learn the art of bookbinding in this interactive 3-hour workshop. You'll go beyond traditional techniques, blending classic methods with innovative, abstract approaches.

Who is this for: Adults aged 16 and over.

What you will gain: Inspired by the themes of the Biennale, you'll repurpose scraps and other materials to craft books that tell stories of the past while embracing contemporary creativity. Using available printing facilities, you'll also get the opportunity to personalize your books with imagery, enriching them with collages that reflect your personal narrative.!

Al Reeshah studio:

Al Reeshah Studio is an independent artist-run studio located in the Abu Dhabi suburbs Al Falah. Founded in August 2021 by an Emirati artist Yoshi (Aisha Al Ali) and Co-founder Sedra Al Mansoori along with Shaikha AI Shamsi, Mohammed Al Jenibi, and Al Maha Jarallah. Recent residents include Mariam Al Mehiri Shama AI Suwaidi, Mayed Al Nuaimi, and Sarah Ahmed. All our members have interdisciplinary practice including painting, installation, illustrating, photography, and ceramics. Al Reeshah's goal is simply to create a platform where artists can meet, share, critique, and create.

 

Sarah Ahmed

Sarah Ahmed is a creative based in Abu Dhabi. She is the founder of Jaffat El Aqlam, co-founder of 7ijra Waraqa Miqas and AlReesha Studio Resident. You can find her urging every single person she ever meets to make zines, which she eventually heart-warmly adds to her collection. When she's not stressing out about meeting self-made deadlines, she experiments with different mediums of art, film photography, glitch art, sends postcards to strangers and publishes zines. Sarah enjoys storytelling and writing what she shamelessly started called children lit for grown ups. 

 

Medyyah Altamimi:

Medyyah is an Emirati self-published author and interdisciplinary artist ruled by a DIY nature to mainly create film, collage, and poetry among many mediums in between. She has completed a degree in Art History and Archeology at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. Her current intéressent are in the abstract documentation of gulf families, the dematerialization of ‘oriental’ women in arts, and violently beautiful things.

 

Yoshi:

Yoshi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Abu Dhabi. She has completed her BFA in Visual Arts at Zayed University She also attended several international art programs at Joshibi University of Art and Design (Tokyo), Tokyo Metropolitan University, and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. She is the founder of Al Reeshah an independent artists-run studio based in Abu Dhabi suburbs. Yoshi has a fascination for Japanese culture and has explored the idea of ‘J-Emirati’ in her graduation showcase at Manarat Al Saadiyat (2021). She has exhibited internationally in various group exhibitions: The Bvlgari Contemporary Art Award Exhibition (2022), East-East Vol.4: The Curio Shop, HB.Nezu and BLOCK HOUSE, Tokyo (2021), The Disappearing Art Show, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai (2021), ZU_CACE Showcase “Pending Approval”, Abu Dhabi Art (2020) and Emerge lll Converging, Venice (2019). She also has participated in the production of a comic book commissioned by the Sharjah Art Foundation entitled “Corniche ” (2020-2021).
